Whispers To Katrina
Led by acclaimed jazz pianist Trevor Watkis, Whisper to Katrina is a newly-commissioned soundscape to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina - the costliest natural disaster in US history.
Drawing on the history of New Orleans Jazz - from the African rhythms and spirituals of Congo Square, through to more contemporary sounds of Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard and the Neville Brothers - the piece has been developed in collaboration with 12 young London-based musicians, as well as artists including Eska, Byron Wallen and Lekan Babalola.
All will join Trevor in a special performance, to take place at London's Kings Place at 8pm on Friday October 9th.
Accompanying the music will be a set of striking images of Katrina’s aftermath captured by documentary photographer Mary-Jane Maybury, as well as newly commissioned poetry by the spoken word artist Nick Makoha.
Admission to the performance is FREE - although we recommend reserving guest list tickets from the menu above.
Whisper To Katrina has been developed by arts-based charity Small Green Shoots and is supported by Arts Council England.
